People's Drug Store: How's Your Liver?

People's Drug Store: How's Your Liver?

The interior of People's Drug Store in the Washington, D.C. area. From the National Photo Company collection, taken around 1921. View full image.

Um...

If the vibrators are for reducing wrinkles, then what are the "French Tickling Rings" for? (Look just under the word "Fountain", between the nail clippers and the um, chains.)

[They're for babies to chomp on. Teething, not "tickling." And necklaces ("Job's Tears"), not chains. - Dave]

In those boxes

>Not sure what is in those boxes but they must be impervious >to heat as they are on a table over the radiator.

Looks like electric heat clamps for curlers.

[They're Star electric massage vibrators. Supposedly a beauty aid. See below. - Dave]

20's

The pictures on display definitely age the photo the most. I'd say the mid-20's, judging by the fact the pics are all of silent film stars.

You can see pretty much all of those photos in better detail at http://www.silentladies.com/

Just FYI. :)

the date

i am going to say the twenties, because there are a few pictures up high, who look like one could be mary pickford. in fact, i'm going to say, yes, that IS mary pickford, i have seen that picture before!!

Kewpie Doll

The large Kewpie Doll in the back next to the sale sign might be a good clue.

You can tell this is a really old photo

by the Beta tapes stacked below the "cough and cold" sign on the right. Well, they look like Beta tapes.

Love the display!

Wish I had that display knack every month when I try to come up with cheap, creative bulletin boards at school...

The guy

The guy with his hands in his pockets looks like he is "gonna rob da joint"

From a few google searches...

According to this Craig's Listing, Pyralin Ivory was first produced in 1919, so the photo is at least as recent as that.

And this page talks about how Hypo Cod was being sold in a drug store as a cure for asthma and advertised in a 1921 newspaper.

Not sure what is in those

Not sure what is in those boxes but they must be impervious to heat as they are on a table over the radiator.

Liver?

Liver is ok, However.....the item "Hypo Cod"...hmmm....many images, none all that pleasant.
