I got this from Shorpy: Bliss, 1901.
A famous comedian once said, "Stereotypes are Shortcuts".
Tosh said, "Come on! It's funny because it IS racist."
I would say the photographer in this photo knew he was exploiting a stereotype that "whitey" wanted to see. He even probably thought it was funny. You couldn't do this today, thank God, for obvious reasons. View full size.
