About the Photos

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Most were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

re: Centennial Poster

Found on the Library of Congress, where they have a large number of WPA posters. There is no credit for the author.

Centennial Poster

Wow, what an amazing piece of Americana. Where did you find it? I googled the WPA and the Federal Arts Project and found out a little bit more about this poster project, rather short lived as it was. Is there any notation on the artist?

I'd like to use the image in my blog, with a hat tip to you if you approve.
