Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

The Cal-Vada Lodge Orchestra, August 8, 1935. My late father-in-law, Bodie Aubery, on bass. Others in photo: Clyde Ramond, Steve Forberg, Bernie Powers, Sherman Hayes, Bob Bryan, Lenny Ellithorpe, Joe Guidera. View full size.
My father-in-law's ex wife is still around; they used to get together sometimes. I'll ask to see if Joe was in their social circles.
Somewhere along the line, Bodie Aubery learned carpentry, and went into business with Luckenbill Sr. building houses in East Sacramento and River Park up until the late 60s.
Joe Guidera was my geometry teacher in high school in the 60's in Sacramento. I'd heard rumors at the time that he used to play sax in local bands, but as far as I know that was all far behind him by then. Great picture!
