Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Taken near the juncture of 22nd and P St., NW, this photo also shows the elegant carriage house designed by Ogden Codman, Jr., which is now concealed along the facade by the former Apex nightclub.
Evidently it was taken with a focal plane shutter, with the characteristic parallelogram distortion of panned background buildings.
