Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Seen here, a scowling 1905 fashion model, walking the runway, wearing the latest one piece swimsuit from the collection of top designer Davy Jones. She is also a top contender in the quest to be the featured cover girl in this year's Sporting News' swimsuit issue.
Sometimes I wonder why the gentlemen of that age didn't wear ties with he swimsuits. They seem to have worn them with almost everything else, anytime, anywhere. Witness the kid to the center right. C'mon mom, it's Sunday!
