Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

U.S. GI with his Buick Eight convertible; plate has 1943 as the date. From a set of found negatives. View full size.
What can be said except that this car is outstanding. This car was built prior to 1942 as it has its chrome in chrome plating. After January 1st 1942 the chrome parts were painted over usually in grey. Would love to park this with my pre'42 Pontiac. What a beauty!
The car is a rare one. Only 2489 of these were built before GM went totally to war production in early February of 1942.
