Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Another photo my Dad took in summer 1958 at Niagara Falls on the Canadian side (a row of autos was in the previous photo I submitted). Although somewhat fuzzy, it shows the period well. At 8 years old, I think I was beside him when he took this shot. The then-recent (1954) slide on the American side is seen again, an event well related by a viewer of the last picture here at Shorpy.
