Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

My grandmother was active in the arts and social circles of San Francisco during this time; I wish I had more of her photos available, I'm sure there were some great photo ops. View full size.
I've always thought that Cesar Romero was exceptionally good looking, and your mom and grandmother were both beautiful!
What a wonderful memory. It must have been such fun to live in the Bay Area in the 50's. (I was born in Berkeley in '61)
