Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

This was taken from Point Loma, looking toward San Diego; Naval Air Station jutting from right. Here's a recent shot I found online.

I was going to say the town of Clearlake in Lake County, on what else, Clear Lake. But it is way too developed to be that. It is probably in SoCal, along the Coast. May not be a lake, there are lots of large marinas there. The vegetation looks like Southern California. Clear Lake area has similar vegetation.
