It’s the summer in the late 1940’s and the New York, Westchester and Boston Railway has long been liquidated. The tracks, signals, catenary bridges and overhead electric wires have been removed. In this suburban Piranesi-like setting, is shown the abandoned interlocking tower (designation WP) which served the terminal and yard at White Plains, New York. These towers designed in this Italian Renaissance style were particular to ‘The Westchester’. None remain today, but some of the stations still exist and have been converted to alternate usages or New York Subway stops. View full size.
