These are my great-grandparents, Frances and Francis Cain (yes, you read that right), with two of my great-uncles and great-aunt. Great-Grandma Frances doesn't look like she's having much fun, does she? She died when my grandmother was two years old of some now completely curable disease, I believe, and she was raised by Great-Grandpa Francis and his new bride, who was 18 years his junior.

This was taken in Republican City, Nebraska around 1920. That Republican City is now under water, as the whole town was moved a few miles north of its original location to make way for the Harlan County Dam and Reservoir which was built to control the inherent flooding in the area. View full size.
