Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Circa 1907. "Kaatskill House, Lake George, New York." A place that separates the gliders from the rockers. 8x10 inch glass negative. View full size.
From the Times article "Book Reader" pointed out (and thank you for that):
"On account of the cold this morning a fire was started in the box stove in the parlor. On the second floor the stovepipe passed through a clothes room...."
I can just hear the contractor: "I've run a hundred stove pipes through closets without a problem."
it only had a year to go. New York Times article.

It looks like a pleasant place to pass time, either gliding or rocking.
