What a stunning young man!

I have become a fan of the photographer Jack Delano ever since I was first introduced to his work here at Shorpy's photo-blog. His railroad photos are gems in every sense of the word. While this subject is a departure from what I have become used to seeing, it nevertheless has great impact.

December, 1941; I have to wonder how close to "the day that will live in infamy" this was taken?!

Look #2

The young lady behind the lad with the tie has a look of deliberately not looking at the camera. And her hair is an amazing sculpture with so many shapes and swirls. It could be used to teach geometry and physics.

The Look

That boy has that "Did I leave the toaster on" look.

He got around but he also stayed

It was during his 1941 trip to the Virgin Islands for this assignment that Delano first visited Puerto Rico, where he would permanently settle in 1946 and remain for the next 51 years.
