About the Photos

Our holdings include hundreds of glass and film negatives/transparencies that we've scanned ourselves; in addition, many other photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs) in the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) They are adjusted, restored and reworked by your webmaster in accordance with his aesthetic sensibilities before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here. All of these images (including "derivative works") are protected by copyright laws of the United States and other jurisdictions and may not be sold, reproduced or otherwise used for commercial purposes without permission.

Humble request

I would like to humbly request that you stop showing including these pictures of the poor cats. Look into their eyes. They look miserable!

[You need to bone up on cat body language. Neither their eyes nor ear positions indicate anything of the sort. -tterrace]

Great seamstress

This has got the be the cutest one yet. My hat is off to the person who made those costumes. I've made clothes for my kids and self, and can see the skill involved in making these little costumes. And how the heck did she get the kitties to be still long enough to be measured and dressed?
