Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Early picture of the Ambassador Bridge that links Detroit Michigan and Windsor Ontario. Bridge was built in 1929 and this looks like it was taken not too much longer after that. Note on the right side the sidewalk and people walking on it, this was closed a long time ago as it was not part of the bridge's charter (at least what I have read). From my negatives collection.
