About the Photos

Our holdings include hundreds of glass and film negatives/transparencies that we've scanned ourselves; in addition, many other photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs) in the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) They are adjusted, restored and reworked by your webmaster in accordance with his aesthetic sensibilities before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here. All of these images (including "derivative works") are protected by copyright laws of the United States and other jurisdictions and may not be sold, reproduced or otherwise used for commercial purposes without permission.

See the USA

I still remember watching Dinah Shore, and can hear her singing "See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet, America is asking you to call ... "

Colorful Dinah

Apparently, The Dinah Shore Show was one of the first regular color broadcasts. Here is a brief color segment from a program she recorded in late 1958:

[Though a few episodes of Shore's 15-minute NBC program that aired from 1951-1956 - initially on Tuesdays and Thursdays, later Thursdays only - were broadcast in color, her 1-hour Sunday color Dinah Shore Chevy Show did not begin until October, 1956. -tterrace]
