About the Photos

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

La Habra Heights 1955

La Habra Heights 1955

March, 1955. Cruising somewhere in the La Habra Heights, Orange County, Calif. My mom behind the wheel, neighbor in the back seat. View full size.

Somewhere out there in the haze

Was my family's home. I was not yet on the scene. Great shot overlooking the San Gabriel Valley, where the majority of pictures I've posted here were taken. There are still quite a few rather rural areas out here, including the La Habra Heights community.

Thank you for this great picture.

Plenty of illumination

I don't think I have ever seen a car equipped with two spotlights. And I guess those are fog lights mounted on the front bumper.
