The Fallsview Bridge spanned the Niagara River below the falls between Niagara Falls, Ontario and Niagara Falls, New York (seen here). During the especially harsh winter of 1938, large quantities of Lake Erie ice were swept down the river, building up in the gorge below the falls, On January 27, the pressure of the ice on the bridge abutments caused a catastrophic failure of the structure.
