Sternwheeler Staples (Colorized): 1910

Colorized from this Shorpy original. A comment on the original b&w posting by fellow member Vidiot stated, "That's a strikingly different view of steamboat travel -- actual utilitarian work, transporting freight. Belies the romantic notion of white-suited gentlemen sipping sloe gin. I think I like this view better." I do agree, although to me, there is a gent seated on the second deck above the bow that does fulfill that romantic notion of a riverboat gambler. I can easily imagine that he would not have been a stranger to a deck of cards! View full size.
