"Lines up! Lines up!"

My father said that in his youth in early 20th century Mt. Vernon, NY, a city with many multi-story dwellings, there were street vendors who rigged clotheslines. These men would walk the streets shouting "Lines up! Lines up!", seeking householders who needed help to rig or re-rig their clotheslines.
