Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

This picture is what made me a fan of this site; I love the amazing detail, the faces in the crowd.
Greetz from Amsterdam.
It looked at first like an Olds runabout, but just the top and not the bottom of the dash is curved. Car experts?
I had to look at the way big image to see it, but there's a "horseless carriage" in the center there. Amazing photograph.
I'm new here, but I LOVE this site!
