My grandfather Tomaso Cazzorla and his crèche at his Los Angeles home in the 1930s. An immigrant from Monopoli Italy, he brought a passion of his to Los Angeles. As a child he was deeply imprinted by the crèche at the Amalfitana church in Monopoli. Within that creche was the source of inspiration of another of his passions, cultivating figs. An Armenian immigrant to Monopoli (escaping Turkish persecution) placed an amazingly large fig in a wreath adorning the creche. That man and his family would remain friends with my grandfather for decades. View full size.
