Lint heads

Just wondering: Did they call people who worked in textile mills up north lint heads like they did down South? Seems that every time I made a newspaper move over the past 50 years it was to another mill town: Columbus, Ga., Opelika, Ala., Altavista, Va., Durham, N.C. Now all those textile mills have been turned into loft apartments. In Durham, the tobacco mills also.
