I grew up with miles, then my country (Neighbor to North) switched to metric. I understand 7.7 km, and I understand a mile and a quarter or two and a half miles, but I don't get the odd mix of miles and decimal fractions on that sign to Meek's Mines.

[It was useful because odometers of the time commonly read miles and tenths. -tterrace]
