Times of Temperance

Unusually plain walls for those days and lunch is utterly frugal!

In love

I'm in love with this picture !

Wine with a Hot Dog

In reply to OTY; that would be Boone's Farm, or MD 20/20.

Mix and Match Tea Service for Seven

The cutout hand embroidered tablecloth and not quite Tiffany lamp are to-die-for, but the china all seems to come from different sets.

Leaves me wondering if mismatched china is the correct 1917 casual etiquette for hot dogs or, if this host couple, rarely having more than each other at the table for lunch, no longer have a surviving matched formal china set.

Energy efficient lighting

Note the energy efficient lighting. A table lamp stuck in the centre of an overcrowded table. Maybe where they were didn't have ceiling lights - the pictures are a bit reminiscent of a church hall.

"I'm not an officer; I work for a living."

The Army types are all enlisted men, albeit in two different kinds of uniform, the tunic with standing collar being the more formal.

Bong wines pair well with hot dogs (though not with something more exotic, like bratwurst), among them Ripple, Strawberry Hill, Boone's Farm, Jive Seven, and my personal favorite, Captain's Walk Scuppernong Wine.

secret meeting....

Shades pulled, no coffee in the cups nor wieners in the buns. Gotta be something fishy happening here.

Fascinating Tableau

The young man in the center appears to have committed two gaffes -- grabbing his hot dog with his hand and having taken a bite out his bun before building his sandwich. The officer on the right appears to be just about ready to say something, while the young lady on the left is controlling her horror, amusement, or both. Except for grandpa and grandma, probably not everybody's idea of a good time.

Elegant lamp, china and linens

from at least 99 years ago, but they appear to be dining on either hot dogs or sausages, rolls and possibly potato salad. I'm guessing this was a luncheon. (By the way, a friend asked me recently what is the proper wine to serve with hot dogs. Anyone know?)
