Wadena High Indians: 1945

Wadena, Minnesota. For a brief moment during his youth, Frank Burch (1927-2009) was totally cool. That moment is captured here. The Indians? Not so much, as they boasted a 7-14 season that year, falling to Brainerd High in the first round of playoffs. Sitting from L-R: Cleon Erckenbrack, Frank Jung, Pat Frost, Bruce Wilcox, Don Imgrund, Dale Besett, and Warren Blood. Standing, L-R: Frank Burch, Mr. Kermit Anderson, Ed Bretz, Kenneth Imgrund, Bill Blair, Tom Nyberg, Lovell Piepkorn, Willis Goedel, Wayne Moroney, Mr. Robert Mower, and Verle Blaha. Image from the Frank Burch photo collection. View full size.

35 and 38

All the other boys have level shoulders in their relaxed poses. The shoulders and upper arms on the tallest lad, 38, have just committed some shoving mischief on the clearly-aggrieved 35. I can even imagine 38 is delivering some side-mouth message to 35 or the camera has just caught him mid-mutter.
