This is one of my favorite series of photographs posted on Shorpy. And thanks for the link to the WPA painting. My mother-in-law was a plucky young woman like the ones pictured here who helped the war effort and got to travel and experience some personal independence.

"Mirror Pool" by Vincent Canade
