Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

With all of those flags lining the sidewalks, this was probably taken sometime near the Washington's Birthday national holiday on Feb. 22nd. But since this was in Illinois, they might have gotten an early start with the decorations in honor of Lincoln's Birthday on the 12th.
