National Hotel Fire: 1911

The National Hotel Fire (corner of Hamilton and Jefferson Streets), Nov. 12, 1911. Opening on October 30, 1883, the National quickly became the preeminent elegant Hotel in Peoria, until its untimely demise. Firefighter Chester Mooberry of the Peoria Fire Department died in the line of duty when he was caught beneath a falling smokestack.
