Southern Pacific maintained long stretches of wooden snow shed over its Donner Pass route in Placer and Nevada Counties, California. The sheds used an enormous amount of lumber and labor to construct and maintain and were beginning to be phased out in the 1930s except at key spots which the railroad deemed worth keeping. Photo dates from the 1920s to 1930s and shows some construction or repair underway at Shed #10 which was located between SP's Crystal Lake and Cisco, Calif. stations.
