My great-uncle, Hubert Blanc, who died at Passchendaele on November 8, 1917, a hundred years ago this week. He was an older brother of my maternal grandmother, and signed up with the 28th (Northwest) Battalion in Saskatchewan where he was a farmer. He was wounded on November 6, the day the town of Passchendaele was taken, and died two days later. The battle ended on November 10 when the Canadians cleared the town and adjacent ridge of counter-attacking Germans. View full size.
