Hubert Blanc: 1965

The grave of my great-uncle Hubert Blanc who died at Passchendaele a hundred years ago at the age of 24. His younger sister, my maternal grandmother, took this photo on May 16, 1965, at the Lijssenthoek Cemetery in Belgium. Hubert was born in France, grew up in New York City, moved to Saskatchewan to farm with his family, and ended up back in the continent of his birth where he fought and died in the First World War.
