The passing this past week of American racing legend Dan Gurney got me searching back to 35 mm slides I took at the 1970 Mosport, Ontario CanAm race. The race was held just weeks following the tragic death of Bruce McLaren, test driving one of his cars, and Dan stepped up to replace him driving one of the dominant Team McLaren "Orange Elephants", M8Ds with big-block Chevrolet engines. Dan drove to a victory in car 48, supported by teammate and fellow McLaren Kiwi, Denny Hulme. As McLaren was a dominant force, both as driver and constructor, so was Gurney.
