The calm before the storm

I wonder what they were all thinking, here. I'd bet at least some of them were wondering if it would be the last peaceful Independence Day for a while. Chances are, the two young men at the table were somewhere in the Pacific by the time the next Fourth of July came around. Certainly everyone in the picture had their lives change considerably.
