April 1941. "Rollerskating on Saturday night. Chicago, Illinois." Medium format negative by Russell Lee for the Farm Security Administration. View full size.
As a former roller skater, I can safely say that I never saw anybody dressed that nicely in a roller rink. How far we have come!
The change in society 77 years has wrought! Who could find anywhere today a group of young people roller skating on a Friday night dressed to the nines as these people are! They all look like they're ready for church come Sunday morning!
Since the St Patrick's Day adornments are still up.
