We found this picture in the attic of our 125 year old home in Britt, Iowa. As close as we can figure out, this was taken in early 1888. This picture is looking northwest in the middle of Center Street and Main Street. The right half of this building still stands today. There was a fire in the left part in 1917 and a new bank was built in its place. The upper floor of the original building was a dance studio. Britt became an official city in 1888, so I would presume that the picture was taken for the opening of the new Citizens Bank that only lasted for about 6 months. Brrrrr...lots of snow. Also, I see no telephone lines.
