Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

What surprises me in this photo is the lack of landscaping near the building. It's just a sea of concrete. Even if you could drive close enough to the building for Google Street View to have a comparable shot, I think there would still be trees in the way. For once I like the current view better!
What a great shot, amazing there's no cars or people in the shot except for the carriage on the left. Wonder if you could do the same today.
