I know that your father was a very nice man. It is beyond awful that someone he offered support and care to ended his life. I am glad that you posted this photo so we can remember him. Do you have any others you could post? I have several, in a book, but don't think I would be able to post them because of copyright laws. Anyway, it must be a blessing to be able to see film of your father as a child. Kids now usually have at least some video of their parents as children but most of us whose parents were born very long ago have no more than a few black and white photos.
The kids in the top photo are:
Jay R. Smith
Mickey Daniels
Joe Cobb
Scooter Lowry
Allen "Farina" Hoskins
Johnny Downs
Mary Kornman
Jackie Condon
It is a still from the 1926 film "Thundering Fleas."
Here's my best guess at names in photo, l-r:
Jay R. Smith
Mickey Daniels
Joe Cobb
Bobby "Bonedust" Young
Allen "Farina" Hoskins
Johnny Downs
Mary Korman
Jackie Condon
Based on IDed photos at http://www.west.net/~ke6jqp/ourgang.htm
This group appears to be from the earlier cast from the silent era:
"The first cast of Our Gang kids was recruited primarily from children recommended to Roach by studio employees, including photographer Gene Kornman's daughter Mary Kornman, their friends' son Mickey Daniels, Roach child actor Ernie "Sunshine Sammy" Morrison, and family friends Allen "Farina" Hoskins, Jack Davis, Jackie Condon, and Joe Cobb. Most of the early shorts were shot outdoors and on location, and also featured a menagerie of comic animal characters, such as Dinah the Mule."
I recognize Spanky, Alfalfa, Mickey (Robert Blake), and Buckwheat. I don't think either of the girls is Darla. I used to watch the reruns all the time in the 1960s when I was a kid. What was your father's name and what was the name of the character he played? I remember him, but not his name. I think he was the one who was always competing with Alfalfa for Darla's attention.
Do you know the names of the our gang bunch?
