Roberts, original driver from Times Square, of Thomas Flyer in the New York-Paris Race of 1908 (he steered the car to Cheyenne, Wyoming -- had to leave for prior race commitment) seen here in later years, second from left. He was instrumental in the invention of the "Franklin Booster," shown here, a device that assisted locomotives in climbing steep grades. He was the grandfather of my wife, Cindi.
