About the Photos

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Rufina in the Garden

Rufina in the Garden

My great grandmother Rufina Izzo in her garden. Saratoga Springs, NY - circa 1925.

Rufie recognition!

My name is John Spinelli. Our family (5 generations), resided directly across the street from the Izzo family home on West Circular St. for over 75 years. As a little boy, thru my teen years and into my early 20's, I can remember "Rufie", her brother Tony Etes ("Etesie"), the garden, the huge (to me anyway) front yard, Marilyn, Steve (Bill) & the kids (Karen, Paul, Skip and Laurie).

Great smile!

She looks like she was fun to be around.
