I know J.W.

I had noticed that a lot of your photos looked familiar, May Hosiery Mills, etc. My father's side of the family lived in the same area. Uncle Herman was a good friend of J.W. who, I think, is still around. Know any Hunters?

J.W. Gleaves

J.W. Gleaves is my uncle. I'm trying to get this to post, so if it does, you may contact me at wilkerbee@aol.com.

George Wilkerson

AF Rank

A very minor quibble: up until 1976, USAF E-4s were called "Sergeant."

J.W. Again

I'm Charles Lemay, son of Walter Lemay, son of Alva Paul Lemay and Mattie Louise (Spain) Lemay. I believe that J.W. Gleaves is the son of Jeanie Gleaves, sister of Mattie Lemay. Sorry for wrong information on which war J.W. served in, just guessed. Have lots of family photos but no one alive to tell me who they are. Lived all my life in Nashville as well. J.W. lives here.

cpl1318@yahoo.com is my e-mail.

J.W. Gleaves

I am President of the Gleaves Family Association. I would be real interested to find out the location J.W. Gleaves was born and grew up. Also for more Gleaves information check out our website, www.GleavesFamily.com.

Not to Mention

While J.W. Gleaves may have driven ambulances during World War II his rank insignia in this photo is pure US Air Force - Senior Airman (E-4 - the equivalent of a Corporal in the Army or Marines). Not to mention that the extremely shiny Cadillac Ambulance bears the words "U.S. Air Force Medical Service." And of course as most of us know the U.S. Air Force became a separate branch of service in 1947.

Korean War

This is a circa 1952 Cadillac.
