Blaustein Humanities at CC by the Sea

The old Palmer Library was an amazing labyrinth of stacks and places of wonder. Connecticut College went coed in 1969. I was an undergrad there from 1974 to 1976 and saw the building's contents moved by the students' hard work in those last days before I moved to study music in London. The library was refurbished and made into the new Blaustein Humanities Center in Palmer Library.

Ceiling fixtures

I noticed the extremely well designed shades on the ceiling incandescent fixtures. They have square perfs to emit light sideways in the aisle, but there is a solid section in line with the aisle so anyone walking down it from either direction will not be exposed directly to the glare from the bulbs.

Did not realize the track and hook system of shelving seen here was that old. First saw it in the 60s when my parents remodelled our den.
