About the Photos

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Most were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Aircraft Mechanic Class, 1966

Aircraft Mechanic Class, 1966

November or December 1966 at Shepherd Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, TX. The aircraft is a C-97 and used for training Reciprocating (Recips) Aircraft Mechanics. I never saw any of these guys after that. Some of the names on the back are: Greg Hofelich, Buffalo, NY; Mark Beam, Beaverton, OR; Tommy Kreih, St. Paul, MN; John DeVeitio (or DeVeitlo) who signed as 'John Henry' Portland, OR; and me, John Murphy, Meridian, MS.
