My mother, pregnant with me in Wakefield, Quebec. This was taken perhaps in July or August, 1956. I was born in mid-September. My father, who was an artist and had lived in Greenwich Village and the Lower East Side, moved my mother up from Ottawa to Wakefield where he planned to start an artist colony.

The studio was an old log cabin. This is in the house. The window covering is made from string and nails, like string-art but on a grand scale. The cat is either Henry or Midge. The night they brought me home from the hospital, Henry and Midge took up watch at head and foot of my crib. Mom is now 85. View full size.
