March 1943. "Farm boys and girls dancing to a jukebox at Mary's Place on U.S. Highway 29 near Charlottesville, Virginia." Medium format acetate negative by John Vachon for the Office of War Information. View full size.
The young lady on the left has a beautiful face and we wonder what the future held for these young people. Reminds me of the young people we saw in the bus station.
Wonder if that's a Coke machine or fridge in the next room.
This reminds me of "The Last Picture Show."
If only these fresh faces could have seen into the future to 2010 and observed the "groin grinding" that currently passes for dancing. Talk about innocence lost.
I'm not sure Mr. Jefferson would have approved. Damn townies!
This looks like a shot set up by David Lynch. The lighting is just creepy, and it looks like they're in someone's front hall.
Take your jacket off when dancing. A girl might just get the wrong idea.
that there was more to the evening than this! What a sorry scene it is.
I think the young lady on the far right is the sister of the man facing the camera. They sure seem to look alike.
I'd love to know what song they're dancing to and to see the jukebox playlist.
All the high-class joints have their lights on the floor.
First thing that comes to mind when seeing this photo is the old Lynyrd Skynyrd song "Gimme Three Steps"
