Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.
Just a quick comment about the 1915 Indiana license plate -- it was one of the strangest color combinations in history. The numbers were green on a background of pink!

The 'hat brimmed' or billed front fender with the fender moldings is a distinct 1914 style. The 1914's were the last of the all brass kerosene tail lamp, and the last year for the straight rear fender, by 1915 the rear fender was round shaped to cover more of the rear wheel.
