This is a photograph of my grandmother, c. 1944, in China, location unknown, where she worked for the Services of Supply (SOS) for the US Army in the China-Burma-India Theater. Grandma was born in Baoding and was stationed in Kunming, Chongqing, Beijing, Shanghai and Nanjing during WW2 and the years immediately following Japan's surrender. She was educated in English at a missionary school in Beijing, and was thoroughly Westernized. Grandpa was a Captain in the US Army working in Marshall's headquarters when they met. She emigrated to the US in 1948. View full size.
What a gorgeous grandmother you have! In my experience, Chinese ladies tended to be pretty gutsy, so her proximity to the snake doesn't surprise me. I wouldn't be anywhere near that close to it, though!
Is that a snake in front of her? What a lovely lady!
