Bagdad, 1976

Helped load up M-48 tanks to be returned to MCB Pendleton in spring of 1976, from MCB 29 Palms. Lone shack of concrete and a stack of old tires was all that was there. We threw the tires onto old Route 66 so the tracks would not destroy the roadbed when they drove the tanks across it. Today, all is gone except for a lone tree. The Marines truck their tanks to the base these days - the few that are not overseas in combat that is.

 

Blue Rails

Why are the rails so blue? Is there a filter on the lens that caused this?

The site of Bagdad - originally a watering stop for the railroad - is now completely abandoned, but was once a busy little town on Route 66.

[Rails that are traveled a lot are shiny on top. In this case reflecting the blue of the sky. - Dave]
