Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

This is my brother Randy Clevenger in his barracks somewhere in Vietnam in 1970 or '71. I am trying to identify the program he's trying to tune in. Any clues? View full size.
Most likely it was AFVN, the Armed Forces Vietnam Network. There also was commercial Vietnamese TV.
Having lived on military bases overseas during that era I can assure you whatever he was watching came from a base broadcast. My guess is that he's trying to get a picture. Wasn't much TV in southeast Asia back then.
He reminded me immediately of Phil Mickelson, who would have been a baby around then.
The face on the screen might belong to a cast member of "Days of Our Lives" or some other daytime soap.
Hope your brother was thanked by many for his service.
